The book is signed by Robert Graves and the illustrator James Metcalf, and is numbered #80 out of 250 signed copies. Graves had a unique life filled with mystery, love, and drama. In a time where sexuality was not openly talked about, Graves walked the line as an openly bisexual who also dabbled with open relationships. His writings were very interesting, touching on the mythical, occult, and other odd things. There are some modern scholars that have been finding a link to Graves and the Bricket Wood coven, arguably the most famous witch's coven of the 20th century, that was founded by Gerald B. Gardner. He had written often to Alexander Boothby, a well known member of the coven, and talks of these things in a lot of his writings, especially in the book The White Goddess. You can reference this subject matter in an article written by Steven Stroud in The Robert Graves Review.

Illustrated throughout with wood engravings by James Metcalf.

In Near Fine condition with a VG dust jacket. The slipcase shows some fading and light staining with some splits to the top front of the case, otherwise it remains mostly intact. The dust jacket has tears and chipping, especially to the middle of the spine and the top of the spine, with a small spot to the top fore-edge, and is wrapped in a protective mylar cover. Inside the pages remain crisp and clean as if new. Near Fine. Item #124
