A substantial three-volume historical work by Robert Chambers, covering Scottish domestic life, customs, and events from the Reformation through the Revolution. Chambers focuses on everyday life, social conditions, and cultural practices rather than purely political history, drawing on a wide range of sources to present a detailed and readable account of Scottish society across two transformative centuries.

The set retains an early ownership mark: an Ex Libris reading “Davidis Francisci Ward, Sac. Dunkelden.”, likely indicating ownership by David Francis Ward, possibly a priest or clergyman associated with the Dunkeld region in Scotland. The Latinized name and clerical designation suggest an educated 19th-century ecclesiastical owner, though this attribution cannot be confirmed with certainty.

Bound in matching red cloth with gilt titles to the spine and gilt floral decoration to the front boards.

It is in Good condition: heavy wear to the headcaps and tailcaps with most material missing, as shown; corners bumped; general shelf wear throughout. In Volume III, the text block had come loose at the top and has been repaired, while the boards remain intact and secure. All hinges are sound and operable. Internally, the pages are mostly clean with light tanning to the margins. Good. Item #132
