Very Good
An early American edition of Samuel Cooper’s well-known surgical manual, issued here as the third American edition from the third London edition, revised and corrected with practical notes and observations. Intended for both students and working practitioners, it serves as a practical reference rather than a theoretical text, covering general surgical subjects in the first part and more specific procedures in the second. The inclusion of nine plates, including a frontispiece and additional plates at the rear, adds useful visual material to a book clearly meant for hands-on use.
Bound in full leather with a red gilt spine label.
It is in Good condition, with heavy shelf wear and fading to the boards, a couple small splits to the spine, bumped corners, and a stain at the top front. previous owner inscriptions to the front endpaper. There is damp staining to the top margin throughout and in places along the bottom margin. Moderate to heavy foxing is present throughout, along with some dog-eared pages.
