A late-eighteenth-century topographical travel narrative describing a series of walking tours through the western counties of England. Warner records observations on landscape, antiquities, local history, and architecture, moving deliberately through places including Glastonbury, Wookey, Cheddar, Ilfracombe, Barnstaple, Chudleigh, Dawlish, Exmoor, Wells, and Bath. Written in an antiquarian and observational style, the work reflects the period’s growing interest in domestic travel and regional history. Illustrated with a frontispiece, an additional plate, and in-text illustrations throughout.
Bound in 3/4 calf over marbled boards, with five raised bands, gilt rules and borders to the spine, and a gilt title over a dark spine label. Illustrated with engraved plates and in-text illustrations.
It is in Very Good condition. Heavy shelf wear with rubbed and bumped corners, a one-inch split to the top of the front hinge, minor foxing throughout, and scattered pencil annotations in places. Otherwise, the pages remain mostly clean. Very good. Item #16
