First published in 1760, Lyttelton's Dialogues of the Dead is one of the more popular examples of eighteenth-century literary satire. Written in the style of Lucian's classical dialogues, the work imagines conversations between historical, literary, and political figures from different eras. Among the speakers are Addison, Swift, Plato, Fenelon, William Penn, Boileau, Locke, Bayle, and others. The dialogues offered commentary on politics, morality, literature, and society, becoming widely read and frequently imitated in the decades that followed.

Bound in contemporary calf with red morocco spine label and gilt lettering.

It is in Very Good condition with contemporary ownership signatures dated 1764 to the front endpaper. Edges lightly rubbed with general shelf wear. A clean, solid copy overall.
