Limited "Cabinet Edition" of The Novels of William Harrison Ainsworth, one of only 1,000 sets issued, this example being set number 490. A collected edition of Ainsworth's historical romances including Rookwood, Jack Sheppard, Windsor Castle, Old St. Paul's, The Tower of London, Crichton, Guy Fawkes, and numerous other works. Illustrated throughout with full-page plates. Pages remain generally clean throughout the set.

Bound in three-quarter red leather over marbled boards with marbled endpapers, raised bands, gilt spine titles, decorative gilt floral tooling to the spines, and top edges gilt.

Condition is fair to good overall. Four volumes have fully detached boards. Heavy rubbing, chipping, and wear are present along the board edges and corners throughout the set. Several additional volumes exhibit splitting at the joints, though the boards remain attached. The leather shows general scuffing and wear from handling. Interiors remain generally clean and complete.
