Best remembered for her classic memoir The Hiding Place, Corrie ten Boom first shared her remarkable story in A Prisoner—and Yet!, published just two years after the end of the Second World War. A Dutch watchmaker and member of the Dutch resistance, Corrie and her family risked their lives hiding Jews and other fugitives from the Nazis until they were betrayed in 1944. Imprisoned first in the Netherlands and later at Ravensbrück concentration camp, where her sister Betsie died, Corrie survived the war and spent the remainder of her life traveling the world speaking on faith, forgiveness, and the realities of Nazi persecution. This scarce first book is the earliest published account of those experiences and laid the foundation for the story she would later tell in The Hiding Place.
This first edition is inscribed by Corrie ten Boom on the frontispiece, "Jesus is Victor, Corrie ten Boom." Signed first editions are genuinely scarce, particularly with the dust jacket. The last signed copy to publicly sell realized nearly $1,000 despite lacking a dust jacket, making this an especially uncommon example for collectors of Holocaust history, Christian history, and World War II material.
The dust jacket is in good condition with heavy shelf wear, rubbing, splitting at the head of the spine, and bumped, worn upper corners. The book is in fair condition with heavy rubbing and shelf wear to the green cloth binding, loss of cloth at all corners, and slight separation at the gutters, though the binding remains intact. Previous owner's inscription of "Flora Butcher" to the front free endpaper. Author's inscription to the frontispiece. Fair / Good. Item #176
