Very Good / Good

A detailed early twentieth-century study of the itinerant “tinkler” communities of Galloway in southwest Scotland. McCormick records everyday life, work, language, and social structure, along with traditional beliefs, superstitions, and customs held by tinkler families. The book is illustrated throughout, includes a folding map, and concludes with an appendix and a gypsy vocabulary list.

This copy is signed and inscribed by the author in the year of publication, with the recipient’s name now indistinct. A later ownership inscription names James Murray of Kenlea, Balmaclellan.

Bound in the original reddish-brown cloth. Illustrated throughout and complete with the folding map.

It is in Very Good / Good condition with heavy shelf wear, fading and discoloration to the spine, and rubbed and bumped corners. The spine is slightly cocked. Minor foxing is present throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages; otherwise, the text remains complete and mostly clean. VG/G. Item #20
