First Edition of Manly P. Hall's The Space-Born with Portrait by William Mortensen

Manly P. Hall The Space-Born. 1930. First Edition. Publisher: Los Angeles: Skelton Publishing Company, 1930.
[9.5 × 6.5 in]. 59 pp. [English]. Good.

First edition of Manly P. Hall's early collection of mystical poetry, written when he was only 21 years old. The work explores cosmic consciousness, reincarnation, and the metaphysical relationship between matter and spirit, themes that would later become central to Hall's philosophical writings. Written in a poetic, almost hymn-like style, the text personifies cosmic forces while exploring the mysteries of existence and the spiritual awakening of the soul.

This copy features a photographic portrait of Manly P. Hall by William Mortensen as its frontispiece, rather than Mortensen's allegorical composition titled "Not Being Is My Name," found in another variant of the first edition.

Bound in quarter green cloth over decorative paper-covered boards featuring an abstract geometric pattern in muted shades of green, violet, and cream. The cloth spine features gilt borders and gilt lettering, with a gilt ornamental cross stamped near the top of the front cover.

In Good condition, with heavy shelf wear and rubbing along the edges of the decorative paper-covered boards, bumped and rubbed corners, and minor rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. A small puncture or indentation passes through the front board and extends through much of the text block, terminating at the rear board. Although it passes through portions of the printed text, the damage is relatively small and does not significantly interfere with readability.
