A very scarce first edition and signed copy of one of Manly P. Hall’s early standalone works on Egyptian symbolism and its relationship to Freemasonry, expanding on ideas he was developing throughout the 1930s alongside his better-known encyclopedic writings. The book examines Egyptian initiation, ritual symbolism, and philosophical transmission, framed specifically for a Masonic readership. Illustrated with six illustrations in total: three plates, including two pull-out plates, and three in-text illustrations.

Signed by Manly P. Hall on the first endpaper with the inscription “Very sincerely, Manly P. Hall.” Also bearing an early owner inscription reading “Reade Weiant Vosburgh,” with separate initials and date “C.K.D., Dec. 17, 1939.”

Bound in red-brown cloth with gilt titles to the spine and a gilt scarab device. Original first edition dust jacket present, featuring the recognizable artwork depicting a hand holding an ankh amulet, housed in a removable protective sleeve.

It is in Very Good condition overall, with the book itself remaining clean and solid, showing light shelf wear and bumped corners. The dust jacket is in Good condition, with chipping and loss at the spine ends, chipping to the corners, a roughly one-inch loss at the top of the rear panel, and small losses affecting portions of the spine lettering. Internally, the pages remain clean and fresh, with the noted inscriptions only. Very Good / Good. Item #51
