Harriet Beecher Stowe is best known as the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Agnes of Sorrento reflects her interest in faith and moral conscience, approached here through a European historical setting rather than an American one.

A historical romance set in fifteenth-century Italy, following a young woman raised in a convent whose life becomes entangled with the religious and social tensions of the Renaissance.

Original green cloth binding with embossed decoration to the front and rear boards and gilt titles to the spine.

It is in Good condition. Heavy shelf wear and fading to the cloth, with heavy wear and slight loss at the head and tail of the spine, rubbing to edges and corners, and the book slightly cocked. Minor foxing throughout, with small stains and fingerprint smudges in places. The binding is beginning to separate slightly at the front hinge but remains intact. A few gatherings near the first third of the book are loose but remain in place. Pencil inscription on page 3 of the ads; a faded owner’s inscription on the title page is present but largely illegible. Good. Item #53
