Very Good.
This work presents Dr. de Fontbrune’s detailed examination and interpretation of the prophecies of Michel de Nostredame, known as Nostradamus. The text offers a structured commentary on the quatrains, placing them within their historical and intellectual context and addressing questions of meaning, transmission, and interpretation. The volume includes two plates: one reproducing the original title page from the 1668 edition, and another showing a page from an early printed version, allowing direct comparison with the later commentary.
Rebound in half blue Morocco over richly detailed marbled boards, with gilt ruling, raised bands, and gilt decoration and title to the spine. Bound over the original soft covers, preserving them within the later binding. Marbled endpapers, patterned edges, and a red-dyed top edge.
It is in Very Good condition, with light shelf wear. There is minor loss to the Morocco at the lower front hinge, a small dent to the top of the front cover, and bumped, worn corners. Foxing is present in places, most noticeable on the original soft covers and lighter throughout the remainder of the book. Pencil lines and markings appear throughout the text. Very Good. Item #71
