This book contains two alchemical works bound together. The first is Martin Schmuck’s Wohlangerichtetes Aerarium Chymicum (1686), an extensive collection of chemical and alchemical processes, with a strong focus on metal transmutation, distillation, and practical laboratory techniques. The book is structured in ten-part “Decas” sections and includes detailed instructions on working with mercury, silver, and gold. A woodcut illustration on page 84 depicts laboratory glassware for distillation, further emphasizing its practical nature.

Kunst-Büchlein, oder, Gründlicher Gebrauch von Etz-Arbeit, in und ausserhalb Feuers aus Alchymischen und natürlichen Grunde. 1687. The second part of this book was published in 1687 by Johann Caspar Meyer in Frankfurt and Leipzig. This practical alchemical handbook covers the use of fire in alchemical and metallurgical work, including hardening, softening, smelting, refining, and separating metals, as well as preparing and preserving pigments, inks, and gold-gilding techniques. It features detailed recipes and procedures, making it a useful guide for alchemists, metallurgists, and artisans. The book concludes with a woodcut tailpiece.

Bound together in one full volume in contemporary vellum, woodcut initials throughout, and woodcut tail/head bands.

It is in Good condition, with the worst being the first book is missing its title page and the first eight pages, as well as pages 17–20. The volume is also missing the endpapers at the beginning, but three endpapers remain at the end. The second book remains complete. There is shelf wear, bumped corners, a small nick to the rear bottom board, and light foxing and discoloration throughout. The pages are trimmed at the top but do not affect the text. Despite the losses, it remains a fairly clean copy. Good. Item #94
